Ahead of the Madrid vs Dortmund match on Saturday night, BettingSites have ranked both teams in terms of attractiveness to see who is the better looking squad.

We used AI software to determine who is the most handsome team ahead of the 2024 Champions League Final – 14-time winners Real Madrid or German underdogs Borussia Dortmund?

  • Borussia Dortmund more attractive than Real Madrid by 0.85 points (Madrid – 112.45, Dortmund – 113.30)
  • Brahim Diaz (8.76) most attractive Madrid player, Mats Hummels (8.32) best looking Dortmund player according to AI
  • AI ranks Vinicius Jr (5.70) as least attractive Madrid player, Julian Brandt (5.61) least attractive Dortmund player

Borussia Dortmund Win Champions League Good Looks Title Against Real Madrid By The Narrowest Of Margins

The 2024 Champions League Final sees 14-time winners Real Madrid take on Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, June 1. The Galacticos go in as the heavy favourites to win their 15th Champions League, but Dortmund have been underdogs this entire campaign so are used to being written off before a ball has even been kicked.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have enjoyed huge success in Europe in recent years, winning five Champions League’s in the past decade. Dortmund on the other hand haven’t won the European Cup since 1997, with just one Final appearance since then too when they lost to German rivals Bayern Munich in 2013.

Although on the pitch it seems that Dortmund are far less fancied than their Spanish counterparts, they are ahead of Madrid when it comes to attractiveness and players good looks, according to AI.

According to AI based on 16 players from each squad, Borussia Dortmund players are collectively more attractive than that of Real Madrid. Edin Terzic’s side may be underdogs on the pitch, but they can hold their heads high that no matter the result on Saturday night, they are a better looking team collectively than the Spanish giants.

Dortmund more attractive than Madrid by 0.85 points (Dortmund – 113.30, Madrid – 112.45)

Using AI attractiveness test software, Dortmund are a more handsome group of footballers than that of Madrid as a whole. BVB recorded a collective score of 113.30 out of a possible 160.00 points, whilst the Galacticos trailed the Black & Yellow’s by just 0.85 points with a score of 112.45.

Players such as Mats Hummels, Niclas Fullkrug, Nico Schlotterbeck, Gregor Kobel and Ian Maatsen have helped Terzic’s Dortmund pip Ancelotti’s Madrid to the Champions League good looks title. Influential players such as Marco Reus, Julian Brandt and Jadon Sancho have been sensational on the pitch for Dortmund this season, but aren’t rated as highly as some of their teammates in terms of looks.

For Real Madrid, some of their main men like Vinicius Jr and Luka Modric aren’t seen as two of the more attractive players from their squad, according to AI. It’s no surprise to see the likes of Jude Bellingham, Brahim Diaz and club captain Nacho amongst the most handsome footballers at the Bernabeu based side.

Although Real Madrid have a far richer history than Dortmund, both in domestic football and on the European stage, it’s the Black & Yellow side of Edin Terzic who have bragging rights in terms of attractiveness and good looks, according to AI.

Lee Astley, Head of News at BettingSites commented on the data, saying:

“Although Real Madrid are big favourites to win the Champions League, they have failed to win the attractiveness title, according to AI. That mantle belongs to Borussia Dortmund, who have pipped the Galacticos by 0.85 points to be crowned the Champions League good looks champions.

“There was nothing in it between the two sides in terms of attractiveness, with the German side just taking the victory. Is this a surprise to use? Not really! The Black & Yellow’s have a few star players who rate highly in the handsomeness charts too. Could this victory in terms of looks help Edin Terzic’s side on the pitch too? We somehow doubt that, but you never know! Dortmund have been underdogs all season and have continued to prove the doubters wrong.

The likes of Mats Hummels and centre-back partner Nico Schlotterback are two of Dortmund’s most attractive players according to AI, which comes as no surprise at all. The likes of Sancho, Brandt, Reus and Sabitzer ranking quite far down the pecking order for Dortmund is quite a surprise, but this just shows how highly AI rank their attractiveness as a team!

“Jude Bellingham and Brahim Diaz ranking as the two most attractive players for Carlo Ancelotti isn’t much of a surprise either, but we are shocked to see the likes of Rodrygo, Rudiger and Joselu so high, with Vini Jr, Lunin and Camavinga so low.”

AI Attractiveness Software Methodology

The software itself works by using state-of-the-art computer vision and Deep Learning algorithms to calculate the attractiveness score out of 10.00.

In other words, the site tries to imitate how humans would rate attractiveness. It uses machine learning and computer vision algorithms to calculate attractiveness scores from images.

We have compiled a list of 16 players from both teams in the Champions League Final and used AI software to give each player a rating out of 10.00. Thus, each 16-man squad has a combined rating out of a maximum score of 160.
