Cheltenham Festival Preview 2024: The Best Horse Racing Week Of The Year

The Cheltenham Festival is known by most National Hunt racing fans as the “best week of the year” for many reasons as British and Irish horses go head-to-head for some of the biggest prizes in the sport.

With 28 races over four days (Tuesday 12th-Friday 15th), the Cheltenham Festival is the most entertaining event in all of jumps racing. British and Irish trainers will also battle it out for the Prestbury Cup, a tradition that has been around for years, mostly dominated by the latter.

Willie Mullins will be looking for another successful week across the Irish Sea, as he looks to add to his 94 Festival wins in a race to 100. He needs just six more winners to get to the landmark, something that he has achieve in all of the last four years.

Whilst the likes of Nicky Henderson and Paul Nicholls arguably have the best chance of upsetting the Irish this year, as the leading British stables.

Cheltenham Festival 2024 Daily Best Bets (NAP)

Take a look at our Best Bets (NAP) on each of the four days of the Cheltenham Festival.

Tuesday 12th March NAP – MILAN TINO @ 5/1 (4:50pm, Boodles Juvenile Hurdle)

Milan Tino is an exciting French raider who is still yet to win under rules, but hails from a respected yard for Noel George and Amanda Zetterholm.

He has been beaten in two Grade 2 contests at Cheltenham so far, but has shaped well on both occasions (finished 3rd twice) and looks like he could be well handicapped.

Should improve significantly in a race with not too much depth and he has been beaten by two good horses in Burdett Road and Triumph favourite Sir Gino on both British starts.

Could be one to move to British or Irish stable if impresses here so worth chancing at a nice price on a tough first day.

Wednesday 13th March NAP – BALLYBURN @ 8/15 (1:30pm, Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle)

Ballyburn has been one of the biggest talking points in the lead up to the Cheltenham Festival, as there were doubts of which race he was actually going to go for.

Well, trainer Willie Mullins has made his mind up and he goes for the Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle. Ballyburn has won his last two starts over hurdles, including a dominating display at the Dublin Racing Festival in February.

Should have far too much quality for this field and looks like one of the bankers of the week at the Cheltenham Festival. Is the pick of Paul Townend out of five Mullins runners.

Thursday 14th March NAP – BRIGHTERDAYSAHEAD @ 11/8 (4:50pm, Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle)

Brighterdaysahead has been spoken very highly of by her trainer Gordon Elliott and she looks to be a superstar in the making, with one stable representative saying she is “one of the best we’ve ever had”.

She has been well backed in the ante post betting and comes here defending an unbeaten run under rules. This classy mare has won five from five, including three wins over hurdles by a combined 26 lengths.

Plenty to like of what she’s done so far and is our bet of the day on Thursday.

Friday 15th March NAP – ITS ON THE LINE @ 5/2 (4:10pm, Hunters Chase)

Its On The Line has been purchased by leading Cheltenham Festival owner JP McManus in the past week, and looks to extend his winning run to four in a row.

He has been campaigned exceptionally well by Emmet Mullins this season, winning a point-to-point in November before back-to-back Hunters Chase wins at Down Royal and Naas en-route to Cheltenham.
