Frankie Dettori, who is retiring at the end of this season, is expected to ride the John Gosden-trained FREE WIND in the 2023 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on Sunday October 1st – the richest flat horse race in Europe.

Dettori Looks For Arc Win Number Seven

Popular jockey Frankie Dettori will be hanging up his riding boots at the end of this season – after announcing last year that this campaign will be his final one. Therefore, will be riding in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, a race he’s won 6 times in the past, one final time on October 1st.

Frankie first won Europe’s richest flat race back in 1995 on the Epsom Derby winner Lammtarra and has since added successes with Sakhee (2001), Marienbard (2002), Golden Horn (2015) and two with the classy mare Enable (2017 & 2018).

Free Wind Rumoured To Be Frankie’s Final Arc Ride

Trainer John Gosden has supplied Frankie Dettori with 50% of his 6 Arc wins and the pair are expected to team-up again in 2023 – with FREE WIND. The best horse racing betting sites make her around 20/1 in the betting.

This 5 year-old mare was last seen running second to Warm Heart in the Yorkshire Oaks last month, while earlier this term landed the Middleton Stakes at York.

She’s won 6 of her 11 career starts and Dettori has won on her three times in her career. Free Wind will also be hoping to become the third winning 5 year-old in the race since 2019 and if successful would also be providing trainer John Gosden with fourth Arc – having won the pot in 2015, 2017 and 2018

After the Arc, Frankie will ride in the Breeders’ Cup in the US and his final ride is likely to be in the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, November 7th.

Ace Impact Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Betting Favourite

French runner Ace Impact, who is trained by J-C Rouget, is the Arc betting favourite going into the race. He’s yet to lose a race from 5 starts and being a 3 year-old will get a handy age allowance too. The yard also won the race in 2020 with Sottsass.

While Ascot King George winner, Hukum, is next best in the betting.

Recent St Leger winner Continuous could also head to Longchamp for trainer Aidan O’Brien, who has won the race twice before in 2016 (Found) and 2007 (Dylan Thomas).
