The US territory of Puerto Rico is expanding it’s list of licensed online gambling sports betting operators. The Puerto Rico Gaming Commission have issued more licenses for sports betting, following the approval of BetMGM in early June.
Puerto Rico’s Sports Betting Landscape Expanded With Additional Sportsbooks
Following the approval of BetMGM in early June, the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission have issued more licenses in the US territory.
The list of licensed online betting operators in Puerto Rico is fast expanding, with more progress and additional licenses granted by the Gaming Commission. The latest news was confirmed by the regulator’s executive director, Jaime Rivera-Emmanuelli, who welcomes the opportunity to add more sports betting operators to the fledging regional gambling industry.
BetMGM first obtained it’s license early last month, along with Casino del Mar at La Concha Resort. Now, three new operations under the Casino Metro umbrella have also secured entry. Caesars Entertainment and Stadium, which is trading as Winning, which will leverage the IGT betting platform are the latest entries and additions to the sports betting industry in Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico Gaming Commission Executive Director, Jaime Rivera-Emmanuelli, had this to say on the latest news:
“With these three operations, we officially begin a new stage of sports betting in Puerto Rico, and with it, we will see the growth of this market, which will generate tourism activity, economic benefits, and solid revenue for the government, among others.”
With these latest additions, the total number of licenses issued by the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission has hit 30. Five of these are direct operators, who will be running sport betting operations. The remaining 25 have gone to various suppliers.
What this means is that the regulator expects the commonwealth to collect up to $4 million in tax revenue during the next fiscal year. The future of sports betting in Puerto Rico seems very bright indeed.

With the latest additions, this in turn means that huge events such as the Super Bowl, MLB, NBA and various other sports will be readily available to Puerto Rico residents to bet on.

The Puerto Rico Gaming Commission are also confident that sports betting sites have a high level of security, in turn guaranteeing fairness in every bet placed.
