FanDuel has entered into a partnership with the Canadian Football League (CFL) to become the first authorised gaming partner of the league.
The deal means that FanDuel will become an official sportsbook partner of the league, while they will also become the league’s first authorised gaming operator this season.
FanDuel secured a license to launch a legal sports betting market in Ontario last April, meaning football fans will now be able to place bets with the sight on the CFL for the new season.
CFL chief commercial officer Tyler Mazereeuw emphasised the encouragement of responsible gambling, while he hopes the partnership will ‘further the league’s connection’ with the fans.
“Responsible sports wagering is another way for our league to further its connection with our fans.
“In addition to taking in our fun, fast and entertaining brand of football, some fans may wish to engage with the game on a more personal level.
“We’re excited to work with FanDuel to deliver an exciting and innovative betting experience.”
The general manager of FanDuel in Canada, Dale Hooper, also made sure to press home the point of responsible gambling under the new partnership.
“Responsible gaming is the foundation of FanDuel’s core values,” Hooper said. “It is built into everything the company does – from employee training, to in-product features and marketing strategy.
“Responsible gaming is an essential element in all decisions. FanDuel believes in the compliance of regulating bodies and provincial regulations, and continues to make responsible gaming the first priority.
“Maintaining the integrity of sport is essential to users’ safety and enjoyment.”
Ontario-based bettors aged 19 and above will be able to wager bets on the CFL through in-game player propositions and futures bets.
