Let’s say that Manchester United are playing Tottenham. You think that it will be a score draw. A £20 bet on the draw at odds of 29/10 in the match result/1×2 market, will give you a return of £78. The profit will be £58.

Yet if you strongly believe that this will be a score draw, you could back the draw and both teams to score at bigger odds of 16/5. This removes the option of a 0-0 draw and a £20 bet would give a return of £84, with profits of £64.

Perhaps though, you think it will be a score draw, but believe that it is unlikely that it will be 3-3 or 4-4. You can take a gamble on it being either 1-1 or 2-2.

Correct score

You place a £10 bet on the exact scoreline of 1-1 at betting odds of 13/2 and another £10 bet on it being 2-2 at 9/1.

If the match ended 1-1, you would see a total return of £75, of which £65 would be profit. Your bet on 2-2 would be a loser though, so you would lose that £10 stake, which brings your profit down to £55. A little smaller than if you had bet on the draw or draw and both teams to score, but not by too much.

Yet if the game finishes 2-2, you will land a return of £100, of which £90 will be profit. Your 1-1 bet will be a loser, so you’d lose that £10 stake, leaving your profits at £80. That is more than you would have won with the alternative markets, while still having had a useful cover bet for a 1-1 scoreline.

With correct score odds being big, it’s a great choice for either a one-off fun bet, or when you feel that the score is likely to be one of two or three options, as we have described with our example.

Different Correct Score Market Options

There are different terms and options in correct score football betting. Here are some of the types that you are likely to come across.

  • Anytime Correct Score Bet – With this wager, if the score matches your correct score predictions at any time during a game, the bet will be settled as a winner. So if for example, you were to bet on Aston Villa to win 2-0 using this market and they went 2-0 up after 57 minutes, your bet would be settled as a winner, regardless of what the final score might be.
  • Correct Score Double Bet – You have to predict the correct scores of two football games with this wager. Predicting two correct score winners is a hard task, but when two big correct score odds are multiplied, you can get a huge accumulated price.
  • Standard Correct Score Bet – This is the type of regular correct score market that we have previously described. You are trying to predict what the final correct score of a game will be, over regular time and any added stoppage time.
  • Correct Score Accumulator Bet – If you have several correct score wagers in mind, then putting them together in an acca can make sense. A football accumulator is when you have four or more selections together (three selections is a treble) and they all have to win for the bet to be successful as a whole. Again, it’s a tough bet to get right, but the rewards are massive thanks to the accumulated odds.

Though football is the sport that is most associated with the correct score option, betting sites do offer this market for other sports.

This includes popular sports from the USA, such as American football, baseball and ice hockey. Traditional English pub sports such as darts and snooker also have the option of betting on the correct score. This is because matches are broken down into legs and frames respectively.

One of the biggest sports for betting is tennis, as you can bet on the correct score of individual games, sets and the match (in sets) as a whole.
