Premier League side Aston Villa have reportedly agreed a two-year shirt sponsorship deal with online betting platform Betano. It will be the biggest front-of-shirt deal in their history.
Villa are set to sign the deal shortly, according to The Telegraph. Over the course of the sponsorship, they will earn approximately £20 million per-season.
Unai Emery’s side are also set to wear a new Adidas kit for the 2024/25 campaign – which is also when their deal with Betano will begin. Villa’s current front-of shirt sponsors are Chinese betting firm BK8.
The deal is expected to produce more commercial revenue which will help in their quest for UEFA Champions League football. However, Villa could clinch a spot in Europe’s elite competition this year.
Aston Villa Shirt Sponsorship
Although they only signed a front-of-shirt sponsorship deal with BK8 in June 2023, Villa’s new deal is set to earn them twice as much money. This deal was set to run until the end of the 2025/26 season.
From then, gambling sponsors will not be allowed on the front-of-shirts for Premier League teams. The deal with Betano would also run until the summer of 2026.
The Greek-based firm already has a strong presence across European and world football. They struck deals with FIFA (2022 World Cup) and UEFA for the upcoming European Championship in Germany.
Betano are also the current front-of-shirt sponsor for Portuguese side FC Porto. They also have deals with the likes of Olympiacos, Fluminense and Steaua Bucharest.
UEFA Champions League New Format
The UEFA Champions League’s new format will include 36 teams from the 2024/25 season. Currently, there are 32 teams who are split into eight groups of four. The knockout stages follow all the way until the final.
However, the new Champions League format will see all 36 teams compete in a league table. Each side will play eight games in total. Four at home and four away.
All the clubs who finish in the top eight will automatically qualify for the Round of 16. Those placing ninth to 24th will take part in knockout style playoff games.
From there, the winning eight sides will join those who automatically qualified from the main league table. The losing sides will be eliminated from all UEFA competitions.
