Royal Ascot prize money on offer in 2024 will be £10Million, according to the Racing Post. This year’s extravaganza will see a record purse with all Group 1 races worth a minimum of £650,000.
Royal Ascot Prize Money
This is an increase of £50,000 for the top-level contests which include The St James’s Palace Stakes, The Prince of Wales’s Stakes and Gold Cup.
Subsequently, Ascot’s increase in prize money comes after a period of financial uncertainty at the end of 2023. The Racecourse Association had indicated that purses may decline owing to affordability checks.
However, this hasn’t come to fruition as far as Royal Ascot is concerned. Racecourses in the United Kingdom have felt the pinch but June’s event will boast record-breaking figures in terms of prize money.
Consequently, not a single race next month will be run for less than £110,000. Nick Smith, director of racing and public affairs at Ascot, said had plenty to say on the matter.
“We are pleased to be delivering these prize-money increases in 2024 against a backdrop of uncertainty and an unprecedented number of negative headwinds for the industry. The financial impact on all facets of the industry is already being acutely felt.
“It is, however, crucial for Royal Ascot to maintain its position on the global stage at a time when participants at home and abroad have so many alternative lucrative options away from Britain,” he added.
Overseas Stars Running At Royal Ascot
Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of overseas stars running at Royal Ascot in 2024; all of whom will be hoping for a slice of the increased prize money on offer.
Leading Australian sprinter Chain Of Lightning and French heavyweights Big Rock and Facteur Cheval are set to feature. As are US challenger Crimson Advocate and Japanese contender North Bridge.
The King Charles III Stakes and Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes have seen seven Australian sprinters taste glory in the past. Chain Of Lightning will be keen to make it eight this year.
In April, she won her first G1 in a strong edition of Randwick’s T J Smith Stakes. Keen punters will be sure to back her again when Royal Ascot gets underway.
This year, the action begins on June 18 and concludes on June 22. Naturally, Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla will be in attendance.
Furthermore, the King and Queen were recently confirmed as the latest patrons of the Jockey Club. Both are avid equestrian sport fans.
Meanwhile, it is expected that approximately 60,000 fans will attend Royal Ascot on each of the five race days. Thousands of those will arrive via limousine.
