The ‘Every Minute Matters’ campaign has been launched after Sky Bet and the British Heart Foundation joined forces in a bid to urge more people to learn life-saving CPR.
Around 270,000 people will be recruited over the course of the next 12 months. This will also include a ‘Re-Starting XI’ of former and current footballers.
Glenn Hoddle, Graeme Souness, Tom Lockyer, Fabrice Muamba, David Ginola, Charlie Wyke and Megan Tinsley make up the bulk of the team.
Football fans who have saved someone’s life or survived a cardiac arrest will also be included. Furthermore, Sky Bet will be aiming to donate up to £3Million over the course of the next year to the BHF.
The EFL play-offs will see the gambling operator donate £10,000 for every goal scored across the semi-finals and final at Wembley Stadium.
Sky Bet Every Minute Matters
Every Minute Matters aims to inspire people to take 15 minutes to learn CPR via the BHF’s digital tool called RevivR. This will be free to use as well.
Between now and the end of the next EFL season, the Re-Starting XI will raise awareness all over the UK. Lockyer and Muamba will talk about their own experiences as well as other squad members.
“Millions have watched as players and fans have suffered devastating cardiac arrests in football stadiums,” said BHF Chief Executive Dr Charmaine Griffiths.
“Every Minute Matters will equip thousands of fans with lifesaving CPR skills, giving them the confidence to step in during the ultimate medical emergency,” she added.
Sky Bet CCO Steve Birch said: “We’re incredibly proud of our title sponsorship of the Sky Bet Play-Offs and it’s amazing to take our involvement even further and work with the British Heart Foundation to create the ‘Every Minute Matters’ campaign.”
