The UK Gambling Commission will analyse the current structure for football betting payments after an increased number of customer complaints.
UK Gambling Commission To Analyse Football Betting Payments
The UKGC has decided to take a closer look into the settlement of football betting payments, as customers issued concerns over the incorrect results being issued by betting operators.
In a discussion with the BBC, the Gambling Commission would co-operate with members in the football betting industry about the current issue with wrong results being reported.
Customers have shown concern over the amount of incorrect date that has been implemented when closing football bets – primarily with the number of shots and tackles during a game.
Users of various betting operators have made statements like ‘feeling robbed’ after the wrong data was used, as the bookmakers have a third-party to analyse matches and confirm the outcome of a bet.
The CEO at UKGC, Andrew Rhodes, will now meet with the necessary betting data stakeholders to make sure the payments in football markets is fair.
In a report from the BBC, it was revealed that two customers had made complaints in relation to bet-builder stakes, which included shots by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and tackles by Sunderland.
These errors were made by the Premier League’s official statistics partner, Opta, who offer the stats to bookmakers when settling bets.
Disputes from customers were collected by the BBC and it was then discussed with Dr Alireza Monajati, who works with the University of East London.
He then confirmed to the BBC that a lot of complaints from customers were valid and there had been some instances of incorrect data being issued.
Dr Alireza Monajati said (via UKGC): “No data company asserts absolute accuracy and even with a high accuracy rate, say 95%, it implies a 5% margin of inaccuracy.”
