A souped-up opening day card on Friday, 17 November at the home of jumps racing includes some ante post value Cheltenham November Meeting 2023 tips. The most obvious bet from the six races is Persian War winner CAPTAIN TEAGUE in the 2m 5f Grade 2 Trustatrader Novices’ Hurdle (3:30).
One of Paul Nicholls’ top prospects for the division this term, the five-year-old Doyen gelding made an impressive reappearance at Chepstow. Captain Teague hadn’t jumped a hurdle in public, but still ran away with the Persian War. He scored by nine lengths pulling right away from those with more experience in this sphere.
As a placed horse from last season’s Champion Bumper, chances are that Captain Teague will be even better over further. Nicholls saddled Hermes Allen to victory in this race 12 months ago with the yard following a similar route to him here.
Captain Teague a Leading Fancy from Cheltenham November Meeting 2023 Tips
The goal for Captain Teague is the Grade 1 Challow Novices’ Hurdle in-between Christmas and New Year. In order to emulate his stable companion and head to Newbury as a firm favourite for that, he simply must win this under a penalty.
All the leading horse racing betting sites prepared to price up this Friday feature in advance fear Captain Teague. He is 13/8 with bet365 for this old Ballymore Trial with good reason, especially after the Ditcheat runners cranked things up a notch the previous weekend with a four-timer at Wincanton.
Opposition may or may not include Irish raiders like Willie Mullins mare and Listed 2m 6f Limerick scorer Space Tourist, and Peter Fahey’s The Big Doyen. They simply haven’t achieved as much as Captain Teague on the track, though. The way he readily accounted for the 127-rated Resplendent Grey with further progress assured makes him the one to beat.
Tizzard Pair Also Among Cheltenham November Meeting 2023 Tips for Friday
Fresh from saddling the Haldon Gold Cup winner at Exeter, Joe Tizzard’s stable commands respect. JPR ONE swerved Knappers Hill at Wincanton, but instead has an entry in the 2m Grade 2 Arkle Trial earlier on the card (2:20). This six-year-old son of Court Cave made a very nice debut over fences when scoring by a couple of lengths at Newton Abbot.

Three Dan Skelton runners have entries against JPR One here with the pick of them being Unexpected Party. The form of his Listed success at Chepstow was franked by Knappers Hill coming out and landing a Grade 2, but the drop back in trip won’t necessarily suit. Unexpected Party has Cheltenham experience, but over further when staying on for minor honours.
He could be vulnerable to a horse like JPR One quickening up in-behind him at this distance. At the prices on offer through top betting sites in the UK, the 11/2 with Paddy Power looks value. JPR One can only get better for his steeplechase bow and better ground won’t be a problem for him.
Triple Trade One to Back Each Way
Tizzard also has last month’s course and distance second TRIPLE TRADE in the 2m Mucking Brilliant Paddy Power Handicap Chase (1:45). This seven-year-old Norse Dancer gelding is the each way pick from Cheltenham November Meeting 2023 tips for Friday after going close during the Showcase.
Triple Trade was only beaten a couple of lengths by Dancing On My Own here in October. Nudged up 1lb by the handicapper for that reappearance effort, he should go well. Triple Trade should also strip fitter for the outing and there is nothing of the winner’s calibre in the line-up from the last day.
Offered at 8/1 in the ante post betting with Betfair, he can have a say in the finish again. At that price, Triple Trade looks a bit of each way value on the card for the yard who saddled last year’s winner in Amarillo Sky. He’s sure to have learned plenty for his first experience of Cheltenham and can hit the frame.
