The Warwick racing tips this Saturday cover the four LIVE ITV races that are headlined by the Classic Chase at 3pm. The ITV cameras are at the Warwickshire track to take in four races on their monster eight-race card, with the live action running from 1:49 till 3:35.

Warwick Racing Tips: Silver Can Land Gold For Lavelle In Classic Chase

A rare Warwick runner here for the Gordon Elliott yard with Mel Monroe but the County Meath man is 0-from-5 at the track and this 6 year-old has just the one win from six runs. She’s also up in trip here to 3m1f, which is a big unknown having raced over just 2m4f or less in the past.

  • 1:49 Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (Pertemps Hurdle Series Qualifier) (GBB Race) Cl2 (5yo+) 3m1f ITV4

Course winner Kyntara is respected but the way the Dan Skelton-trained MARTHA BRAE won at Kempton over Christmas suggests she’s worth sticking with. Up 5lbs for that 2 1/2 length win looks fair and top stable jockey Harry Skelton remains in the saddle.

The consistent Shallow River, plus old-timers Third Wind and J’Ai Froid look best of the rest.

  • 2:24 Trustatrader Hampton Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 3m ITV4

Just the five runners here but a top little race with four promising sorts in The Changing Man, Broadway Boy, Grey Dawning and Apple Away locking horns. The outsider Carbon King has plenty to find on these terms and will struggle.

Cases can be made for all four, but The Changing Man also has a bit to find at the weights and is overlooked.

Broadway Flyer will have his backers after impressing to win twice this season at Cheltenham, while Apple Away was an easy 31-length winner at Leicester last time.

However, the time before saw she the back of GREY DAWNING at Haydock and more of the same is the call. This is another Dan Skelton runner, who saw off Apple Away by 14-lengths that day and is also a proven course winner at Warwick over hurdles.

The 7 year-old was also an unlucky loser last time at Cheltenham when coming with a winning run until fluffing the second last fence – eventually going down by just 3/4 of a length. You feel without that error this classy grey would have won.

He can make amends here in a race the Skelton’s also took 12 months ago and looks one of the more solid Warwick racing tips in the second live ITV contest.

  • 3:00 Wigley Group Classic Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 3m5f ITV4

19 runners head to post for the Classic Chase and most will have a chance. Last year’s fourth Guetapan Collonges is back for more but is rated 10lbs higher and despite improving to win twice since is overlooked. Malina Girl also beat him at Cheltenham earlier this season and was going well the time after at Cheltenham until falling – the race Broadway Boy won, so that form could be franked in the previous race.

Course winners Fontaine Collonges and Galia Des Liteaux can go well too, while the Alan King and Paul Nicholls yard have fair records in the race and run Major Dundee and Broken Halo.

But another stable that has a good history in the race is Emma Lavelle – they’ve won the pot twice since 2014 – and run MY SILVER LINING (e/w) here.

This grey mare has won three of her 10 chase starts and hit the top three in those races seven times. She gets in here off the same mark as last time when runner-up at Sandown but in this better race has a featherweight of just 10-4. Regular rider James Best continues in the saddle too and having stayed on well over 3m last time this step up to 3m5f looks well worth a crack.

  • 3:35 Unibet Veterans’ Handicap Chase (2023 Veterans’ Chase Series Final) Cl2 (10yo+) 3m ITV4

Plenty of old faces here on show for this Veterans’ race with all the runners aged 11+. Two For Gold is the top-rated in the field but as a result has 12st to carry. CD winners Thomas Darby and Ramses De Teillee are others to note but the one of interest is the Anthony Honeyball old-timer SAM BROWN (e/w).

This 12 year-old continues to slip down the ratings to a mark of 147, having been as high as 159 this time last year. A 5th last time to Cepage, beaten 15 lengths, was a better run though and that effort was made to look even better as it came over a shorter than ideal trip (2m 4 1/2f). The step back to 3m will be a big plus and connections are also sporting the first-time visor here in a bid to eke out a bit more from his old legs.

Plus, considering his age, he’s actually fairly lightly-raced with 21 runs, but with six wins has operated at a decent 29% strike-rate during his career. The icing on the cake is that the Honeyball yard has history in this race – winning the pot in 2020 with Jepeck. Jonathan Burke rides.
